As you know by now, we do things a bit differently at Highland Glenn. A lot of planning, time, effort, and love go into each Highland Glenn litter. We care deeply about these precious puppies and their future keepers, so we carefully screen homes.
Litters are limited each year. And each one carries on the legacy of our Naturally Reared line. Unless there are current puppies available, be prepared to wait. Several months are typical. Longer is quite possible.
Our deepest desire is for each puppy born to be a cherished companion in their new home, treasured for the unique breed characteristics they exhibit. Puppy keepers are encouraged to participate in Conformation, Herding, Search & Rescue, Obedience, Rally, Agility, and Frisbee; English Shepherds excel in all of these activities.
How We Choose Homes for Our Little Ones
In order to determine if we have that special pup suited for your lifestyle, we need to get to know you! There are Three Basic Steps to acquiring a Puppy from us:
Step 1– We ask prospective puppy keepers to APPLY FOR A PUPPY. After reviewing your application, we will arrange for an informal phone discussion so that we can get to know each other and see if a placement is appropriate both for your family and one of our English Shepherds. When approved, you will be added to our Waiting List. After whelping, a deposit will reserve your place.
Introduce yourself properly. When you reach out, tell us who you are, why you want an English Shepherd, why you’re drawn to Highland Glenn specifically, and what your life looks like. A thoughtful inquiry gets a thorough, thoughtful response. A one-line email asking about price and availability tells us very little about whether this is a good fit — for either of us.
Be honest about where you are in the process. If you’re also in contact with another breeder, say so. We understand how this works, and we appreciate honesty. We turn away families once our list is full — knowing you’re covered elsewhere helps us serve the next family.
Step 2– To develop a greater understanding of what Natural Rearing means before adopting any puppy, we encourage you to read the recommended books, materials, websites, and join one of the social media groups devoted to these topics. Also, visit our Research and Canine Health pages. Because we are convinced that this is the best way to keep dogs healthy, we are very happy to coach you in this rewarding endeavor.
Step 3– Waiting for your puppy! We try to make the wait as pleasant as possible, being available via phone and email to answer questions, our Blog, “meeting” other puppy families on our private Facebook group, weekly emails after the puppies are born, and our somewhat semi-annual eNewsletter. And should you find yourself in this neck of the woods, we warmly welcome you to come meet us and our dogs! When the time comes, work with us to find your puppy match.

Occasionally we have an older puppy (16+ weeks old) available. These puppies usually have an even better defined temperament and adjust very well to new environments. Please email us if you might be interested in an older puppy.
Admittedly, we hope for puppy homes that are either already raising their dogs naturally or people who are willing to venture into Natural Rearing and explore what it would mean for them. However, we do not exclude any suitable loving homes.
We realize that changing the way one has been used to raising dogs is a big step. It can be overwhelming to make many changes all at once. Sometimes it’s better to start by choosing just a couple of things, and then add others as you gain confidence.
Of course, we’re here to support all new puppy keepers for the lifetime of their dog with FREE Naturopathic health and nutrition consultations as needed. We want to see our special puppies live the fullest, happiest life possible!
We welcome experienced raw feeders and gladly coach those new to this path so that our little ones may continue to receive the best nutrition for proper development and a healthy life. TRUST US TO MATCH YOU WITH YOUR PUPPY. We do not allow buyers to select their own puppies based on appearance or any other reason. We evaluate each puppy’s temperament, structure, energy level, abilities, and personality and match them deliberately to each approved keeper family. The most outgoing puppy is not always the right puppy for your home. Trust the process — it works.
BE PATIENT AT PUPPY PICK TIME. The tension of waiting to find out which puppy is yours is real. We understand because we’ve been there, too. But the match we make for you is made with knowledge and care that no amount of puppy-box excitement can replicate.
PUPPY CONTRACT. Puppies are sold under contract, which covers health and welfare for the puppy, outlining in detail the responsibilities of both new keeper and us. Everything is previewed and discussed.
HEALTH WARRANTY. We offer an outstanding Health Warranty that ensures we stand behind our puppies. We also warrant that all puppies are healthy and free of communicable disease when they leave our home.
REGISTRATION & PEDIGREE. UKC registration is included with each puppy. After receiving your puppy, we will email our personalized 6-generation pedigree. Our dog’s ancestors can be traced back many, many more generations; we’re glad to show you how to do that fascinating research.
TRANSPORTATION. We highly recommend you personally fly or drive here to collect your puppy. This way you have the opportunity to meet your puppy’s parents in person! Depending on our schedule, we may be available to meet you partway (fees will apply).
We are happy to connect you with ground transport services and flight nannies.
We can arrange to personally deliver your puppy to you or a flight nanny at the airport. Spokane International Airport (GEG) in Spokane, WA serves almost every major U.S. city (even a few smaller ones). A Delivery Fee does apply.
OUR PROMISE TO YOU. Each puppy comes with our special “Puppy Pack” which includes many items to get started on the right paw raising your new English Shepherd puppy.
We promise to offer you friendship and support for the life of your dog — not just the first eight weeks. We promise to answer your questions, celebrate your dog’s milestones, and help you navigate the hard moments. We promise to take your dog back if life truly makes it impossible to keep them. We are always here to help with your canine health, nutrition, and training questions.
We promise to have bred that dog as well as we possibly could, from the most carefully selected parents, with every early advantage we could give them.
