As autumn marches forward, wood is being cut and stacked for winter-time use. I grow nostalgic for the enveloping warmth of wood heat and cooking on the wood stove (someday soon with our Waterford Stanley cookstove!). The following book fuels the feeling!

“American Wood Heat Cookery” – by Margaret Byrd Adams
For anyone interested in utilizing their wood stove for cooking as well as heating, this is a great book! Composed of many historical recipes and tips collected by the author, who is a social worker, from her inner-city clients who practiced the art by necessity. All the recipes adapt to cooking on the modern electric or gas range, too. Also includes interesting historical anecdotes.

Enjoy!
